The Ekka is back! And if you’re reading this on the Monday it is published, it’s the Logan City Show Holiday — the perfect time to enjoy cheap show bags, crazy rides with dubious safety features, and blaring music from every direction around you. For those new to the area, or who haven’t been for a few years, the Ekka (short for “The Exhibition”) is located at the Brisbane Showgrounds (Bowen Hills) and runs from the 8th to the 16th of August 2026. The best place to go for information is the Ekka website (ekka.com.au). Single-entry tickets are $42.95 for adults, $31.95 for concession and $27.95 for children (5–14 years of age). Family passes are also available for a discount. But on top of this, the showbags cost up to $32 each for a bunch of 3D-printed plastic. It’s certainly not a cheap family outing!
I may be betraying my bias here, but I miss the old-time country shows where entry was a few gold coins and show bags were a dime a dozen. Maybe there were fewer rides to choose from, but in my experience the real entertainment comes from the time shared with family and friends, not from how fancy the rides are. What do you think? And are you going to the Ekka this year?
