Move over coffee machines; there's an entirely new way to make coffee in town. Scientists at the University of New South Wales have found a way to make coffee without the hot water! Instead, they used ultrasonic sound waves to extract the desired coffee flavour and aroma from the beans. Compared to brewing, this method reduces energy use by 75% — which could mean cheaper coffee! Blind taste-trials found that participants couldn't tell the new ultrasonic coffee apart from a regular espresso. But the true test is — will consumers accept this new way to make coffee?
