Wild coffee plants are believed to be native to the plateaus of Ethiopia. A local legend says that a goatherd named Kaldi noticed that his goats were behaving strangely after feeding on a certain bush, so he tried some of the berries. Upon experiencing the “caffeine buzz”, he lost no time in announcing his discovery to the rest of the tribe. However, it was not until the 15th century AD when coffee began to be consumed in the form of a beverage among communities in Yemen.
